winter work 2004

After many delays, we got to the exciting phase of making building decisions.  We toyed with the idea of making a walk-in pantry in place of the shower stall.  That idea was out voted by the decision to make longer bunk and more open space in the galley.

A cook top seemed more practical than a full oven since most of the time we are planning to be aboard in the summer months.  Hopefully we will add an inverter and a microwave someday.

The cabinets were purchased at Ikea – good quality, relatively inexpensive, and a bonus – they come in flat boxes so they can be easily put together inside the boat.

The debate about what material to use for ceiling and walls went on for many weeks.  We found what we thought would be a wonderful material for the ceiling.  Armstrong ceiling panels – like Pergo floating floors.  They seemed relatively water resistant but the price ended up being a bit above our budget.  The ceiling ended up being made of white 4' X 8' sheets and the walls are bead board which will be painted light gray.
In addition to West Marine/Boat US, most of the research and shopping was done on the internet.  RV websites were terrific for the gas stove, and also for replacement parts for the curtain tracks and carriers.  The refrigerator was purchased from a company specializing in 12 volt appliances for cabins.
