July 4th was busy with a lot of sailing and a potluck on Fig Island, then the usual Hilton Fireworks at night.  We took off at the end of the month for Old Town, Sacramento.  It was exciting, as always, to leave in Delphie for a long trip to new places.  The weather seemed unusually warm but we found a nice overnight on Steamboat Slough and then made it to Old Town the next day.  We quickly realized that there was a heatwave happening, it was 108 degrees, so we did most of our walking in the evening and early in the day.  


The highpoints of Sacramento were the Capitol and the State Train Museum but sleeping in downtown was noisy and very bright so after a quick ride up to the mouth of the American River, we headed down the Sacramento River.  We wanted to try and sleep on the Sacramento River, but we couldn't get a good anchor hold in the strong current so we went back to Steamboat Slough. The next day we went to Walnut Grove and Locke to walk around, get supplies, and then head to Georgiana Slough - which was as beautiful as always, but we ended up making another hasty exit.  This trip, Brian and Erik brought the boat back to Potato Slough and Josh and I met up with them later in the day.  After one more day - the heat was just two much, so we headed back home.  We read later it had reached 113 in Sacramento by then.
July ended with more visitors, my brother and his family.  It seems like we've done so much and it's only been two months on the boat so far this summer.
